What
is Banner Self-Service?
Banner Self-Service
is
the new user web-based user interface for the new Banner campus
management application.
The new Banner Self-Service interface is intuitive or
"user-friendly" and as a result is easier to learn and
work with than traditional character based or telnet interfaces.
Banner Self-Service
provides
convenient access to information such as faculty teaching or class
schedules, class rosters, registration status of students enrolled
in classes taught by the instructor, student contact
information including the telephone numbers and email addresses of the
students enrolled in classes taught by the faculty.
How will Banner Self-Service
benefit
faculty?
The web-based interface is
considerably easier to use than traditional character or telnet
based interfaces. If you are a faculty member looking for a quick way and
easy way to view your class schedule, your class roster including
registration status of students enrolled in your classes, contact
information for students in the classes you teach or a greatly
simplified grading process, you will definitely benefit from using
Banner Self-Service.
A very attractive feature of Banner Self-Service
which will be a tremendous asset to the University as
a whole the web based grade entry feature. Here's how the
feature works:
Let's assume you are a faculty member
you'll simply sign on to Banner Self-Service and uses its online grading
feature to record the grades of each
student enrolled in the instructor's class or classes. The
online grading feature eliminates the traditional bubble type
grade sheets which were available in the past, but will no longer
be available starting fall term. This will result in greater accuracy, will
eliminate the overhead associated with the a bubble sheet type
grading process and will result in timely reporting or grades to
students.
What software do I need in order to
access Banner Self-Service?
Banner Self-Service
can be accessed via a normal web
browser such as version 4.0 or later or any of the popular modern
web browsers.
How do I enter mid term and
final grades into Banner Self-Service?
Banner Self Service features
virtually the same user interfaced you used in SCT Plus's Web for
Faculty and Advisors application. You should note, however,
that there are a few changes and those are noted in a couple of
tutorials we put together for you. Click the following

Will I be able to access Banner Self-Service
through my Internet Service Provider or ISP?
Sure. Banner Self-Service is an Internet ready
application and may be accessed from via ISPs. Of course
since dial-up networking connections are considerably slower than
campus network connections, the response of Banner Self-Service won't be
nearly as fast, but Banner Self-Service will still function just
fine. When we say ISPs we are referring to the AOLs, the
MindSprings, HiWAAYs, and BellSouth.NETs of the world. In
other words, if you can browse the web from your home or dial-up
connection you should be able to access Banner Self-Service.
A valid UAH Faculty ID and Personal
Identification Number (PIN) are required to access the
system. Please consult the "Requesting
Access" section of this web site for additional
information.
Since I am faculty, I really don't
keep an eight-to-five schedule. Will I be able to access Banner Self-Service
after hours or on the weekends?.
Sure. Banner Self-Service will be available for
you to access
22 hours a day, seven days a week. Note that we said 22
hours rather than 24 hours. Here's why. To record
daily accounting before 12:00am the system must be taken down for
backups and other system related maintenance. Generally,
this maintenance takes around two hours to complete. It is
hard to pin down a start and stop time, so we have to say that the
system will be down for a two hour period
sometime between the hours of 7:00pm and 12:00am daily.
I currently have an account on the
Bravo System and access SIS through a telnet application such as
WinQVT. Will I be able to use my Bravo/SIS login name and
password to gain access to Banner Self-Service?
Your Bravo/SIS login and password will
not work with Banner Self-Service. Please refer to the
section entitled "Requesting
Access" located on this web site for the steps needed to
request access to Banner Self-Service.
Whom should I call if I have a
problem?
If you encounter a problem with your Faculty
ID / PIN combination and it prevents you from accessing your
account, please contact Charger Central at 824-7777 or try out
that handy dandy "Forgot Password" option listed at
login. If you can remember the answer to the question you
created when you established your account, you'll be able to
access your account (although you will be required to change your
PIN upon login).
If you encounter a problem with the
Self-Service interface itself, feel free to contact our CNS Help
Desk for assistance. They may be reached at 824-2639
Monday-Friday 8:15am-12:00pm and from 1:00pm-5:00pm CST.
If you need help with a particular feature
of the Banner Self-Service interface, please contact your departmental
secretary, your department's computer support personnel when
available, or the Information Service Help Desk 824-2639. Also, don't forget to check the training section of
this web site for additional helps.

updated, please contact your department's computer support
personnel when available or contact the Information Services Help
